Weather Bank

Interactive Installation (2023) Team work

Medium: Mixed Media

With global warming, clouds may gradually disappear from the future sky, and there will come a time when there will be no more clouds. At that time, what are the ways in which human beings can learn about "clouds"? The Weather Bank collects the top ten cloud features to make "specimens" and store them. Without clouds, the world would be lost in the spectacle of weather.

The collaborative project involves me being responsible for categorizing cloud, designing interactions, making epoxy cubes and cyanotype, assembling the installation, and executing the project.

Process and Techniques:

The international classification of clouds primarily involves three criteria: cloud base height, cloud shape, and cloud thickness. Based on the international classification of clouds, there are ten combinations of cloud characteristics.

In the boxes categorized as low, medium, and high clouds, there are corresponding 'cloud type specimen bags.' Each specimen bag contains the respective characteristic formula.

According to seven characteristic features classified based on cloud base height, cloud shape, and cloud layer thickness, corresponding elemental blocks made by plaster, epoxy, cotton and pigments were created.

Find the corresponding elemental blocks according to the three characteristic formulas in the specimen bag and place them on the adjacent induction platform. After the pressure Measurements by Arduino, the screen in front will display the corresponding cloud type.

Using the cyanotype technique, the poetry about clouds was printed on linen. This printing method enables long-lasting preservation. People can take a piece and thus experience the beauty of the clouds.

In the end, a large cloud was formed by cutting a polystyrene foam board. The audience could touch and destroy this cloud, adding to the fun, while also conveying a message: the disappearance of clouds is closely related to human behavior.
